#13 Vet in Plymouth, Devon
Woodlands Veterinary Hospital (opened in 1999) is an RCVS Veterinary Hospital offering routine care alongside an on-site, dedicated 24‑hour emergency service branded as MiNightVet Plymouth. The website lists a wide small‑animal remit (from dogs and cats to reptiles and wild birds) and includes procedures such as keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery, plus nurse clinics and home visits.
From the latest reviews available to us, owners most often mention out‑of‑hours visits and end‑of‑life care, with several describing staff taking time to explain options and support decisions. A smaller number of reviews raise concerns about triage access when an animal was deteriorating, and about how fees and payments were handled (including one complaint about being required to attend a consultation to obtain a prescription).
Services mentioned on the clinic website include
Emergency care (as stated on the website)
Species treated (from the website)
Other capability explicitly stated in the structured clinic data
Only specific prices mentioned in the latest reviews available to us
Google rating: 4.4 stars from 319 reviews. - Out-of-hours support and compassionate end-of-life care are repeatedly mentioned, including staff helping owners through difficult decisions and trying to make euthanasia visits as calm and dignified as possible.

I just wanted to share our amazing experience of Woodlands at a very difficult time. Our dog became unwell just before Christmas and we had to take him to Woodlands as they were the out of hours vets. Unfortunately our dog passed away but the kindness, care, compassion and assistance from all staff was impeccable from start to finish. It made a very difficult time a bit easier to manage and I can’t thank them or recommend this practice enough.

I moved here after leaving my last vets as they were rude and didn’t seem to care much for animals! Anyway, Woodside is thankfully totally different, the care they take with my dog is very reassuring and reception staff are so helpful and friendly.

Sorry this is a bad review based on my experience I had yesterday, my dog had took a turn for the worst yesterday and I just new it was time to put her to sleep, she had lost all control of her back legs could not even stand up her eyes were bouncing side to side and she was frothing at the mouth we managed to calm her, I rang woodlands told them the issue they said they could not fit her in until today at 4, so I booked the appointment anyway, I then phoned another vet they said to just take her straight to them as they have a duty of care so I did, the nurse came out and said did I tell you to bring her down No she said then said we made an appointment for tomorrow and we are extremely busy with other poorly animals, so I told her I got a second opinion and that’s why I’ve bought her straight to you as you have a duty of care, with that she came to the car looked at her and said I’ve seen dogs worse than that and it might not be time to put her down it might be an ear problem and that we will have to wait in the car until they can see her, the nurse had no compassion at all and felt like she was patronising me etc, so I decided to leave and go pdsa they were brilliant they looked at her straight away even took us around the back entrance so she was not stressed out just one look at her and they said I did the right thing bringing her straight there as she has had a stroke and yes it was time to put her to sleep, no messing around or waiting, it was very distressing for myself and my son, and miley my dog, and now she is sleeping peacefully

Appalling- had my 18 year old Euthanasia due to poor health. Was advised to use their recommended crematorium. I decided to use an alternative at £150 cheaper. I did not receive a call when the ashes returned only to find out they had returned 6 days previous. I asked why I was not informed- their answer ‘“you did not use our recommended crematorium” appalling. Sent on behalf of my daughter

The vets themselves have for the most part been lovely, but after suffering a bereavement and health issue we just needed an extra few weeks to make the most recent payments. We have paid this practice thousands of pounds over the past 2-3 years in vet fees and have never paid late, but they wouldn't allow us any grace with the payment and threatened debt collectors. So much for customer service.

I can’t thank Alan enough for his advice and the treatment he provided for my Frenchie (Willow). We saw him out of hours and he went completely out of his way to help us to decide the best course of action for Willow. He really put us at ease and it was obvious he just wanted the best for Willow. I’m very appreciative for the service he provided! The receptionist was also very lovely and very caring towards Willow.

I cannot thank the Woodlands team enough for their kindness and dedication over the last week. My cat fell ill on Christmas Day and we ended up at Woodlands on Boxing Day treating him for an extreme UTI. Emergency staff were excellent, as were all the other staff I met over the last week. I was constantly talked through my options in a professional and respectful manner. Special thanks goes to Chloe for our final visit yesterday - a very hard decision to make, but she was compassionate, patient and did everything to make the experience as dignified as possible. Here's a few of Fred in better days ❤️
